- Nobles weren’t happy with England’s King John and his increasing tax policy
- Nobles rebelled against him, to take king John accountable
- Magna Carta: law that government can only govern with the acceptance of his people (1215)
- No one is above the law
- Justice and due process is the right of every free man
- Only applied to nobles
